Everyone on tour has a ranking. That is exactly the problem.

Tennis publishes a number next to every player who has ever won a point, so petitions lead with it. But a ranking is a position in a queue, not a distinction above the sport. What an officer weighs is what that number means — and a petition that treats it as self-evident invites a refusal.

This kit includes the refusals. A tennis O-1A and P-1A for the same player that were both denied, with the Request for Evidence, our responses, the Notice of Intent to Deny and both decisions. And a second player whose O-1A drew an RFE and a denial while the P-1 filed alongside it went through.

Also the three problems specific to tennis: there is no club contract or league roster, so who petitions — agent, academy, club or foreign employer — changes the whole filing; the itinerary pleads tournaments the player has not yet qualified to enter; and the ranking exhibits have to be framed, not just attached.

What is in the kit

These are our own filings, and they are redacted

This is not a set of invented samples, and it is not other people's work.

Who this is for

Athletes and coaches

You want to see what a real tennis petition actually looks like before spending money on one — or you intend to prepare it yourself.

Agents and management

You represent athletes and need to know what the agent-as-employer showing requires, and what an itinerary has to cover.

Clubs, academies and tournaments

You are bringing in international athletes or support staff and need to know what you will be asked for.

What this is not. It is not legal advice, and buying it does not make us your lawyers. It cannot tell you whether your own record clears the bar, or which classification your case should be filed under. Those are worth a conversation — see below.

When you need more than paperwork

Get your own case assessed

A template cannot tell you whether your marks and rankings clear the bar, or whether you should be filing P-1A or O-1A. Sit down with Attorney Sherrod Seward and find out.

You have no U.S. employer to petition

In an individual sport there is often no employer to sign. An agent can act as petitioner instead. Aventus Visa Agents does exactly that.

Questions

Is this legal advice?

No. It is educational material and a set of drafting aids. Buying or using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with Sherrod Sports Visas, the Law Offices of Sherrod Seward, or any affiliated entity. Rules and USCIS policy change — confirm current requirements at uscis.gov before you file.

P-1A or O-1A for a tennis player?

P-1A is tied to competing and works well for a ranked athlete with a real meet schedule. O-1A is tied to the person and covers coaching, training groups, academies and clinics — work P-1A does not reach. If you cannot fill the validity period with tournaments, or you are moving into coaching, O-1A is usually the better instrument. Both templates are in the kit, each with the decision spelled out.

Who signs the consultation letter for a tennis petition?

A P-1A needs a written advisory opinion from an appropriate labor organization or a recognised expert body in the sport. Tennis has no single answer the way a team sport does, and the kit shows which bodies were approached in our own filings and what the letters that came back actually said.

Can I file myself using these?

People do. Whether you should depends on your case. The templates and the worked examples show what a complete filing looks like and where tennis petitions get challenged. They cannot assess your evidence for you.

How do I get in after I pay?

Your username and password appear on the confirmation page immediately after payment. Save them before you close the tab. If you lose them, email us with your receipt and we will send them again.

Are the athletes' real names in the documents?

Yes. Personal data — passport numbers, dates of birth, addresses, signatures and personal contact details — has been removed from every file.

Do you cover other sports?

Sherrod Sports Visas works across sport, and there is a cricket kit already. Each kit is sport-specific because the evidence, the governing bodies and the failure points are sport-specific.

Can I share or resell the files?

No. They are licensed for your own use and your own cases. Please do not redistribute them.
